Mission & Values
The Main Line Center exists to foster intellectual curiosity, encourage diversity of thought, and cultivate a community of respectful dialogue among college and university students throughout the Main Line.
Our mission is to help them succeed by promoting four core values:
-
Encouraging students to ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and pursue knowledge beyond the classroom.
-
Welcoming a broad range of ideas, perspectives, and experiences as essential to intellectual growth.
-
Promoting thoughtful, civil discourse where differing opinions can be explored openly and respectfully.
-
Creating a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable engaging with one another, building relationships, and participating in meaningful conversations.
Expanding intellectual diversity isn't about limiting perspectives; it's about welcoming more of them. We believe a meaningful education encourages students to ask thoughtful questions, explore different viewpoints, challenge assumptions, and engage with ideas beyond those they may encounter in the classroom.
The Main Line Center seeks to complement the college experience by creating opportunities for students to engage in intellectual exploration and respectful dialogue. Through our speaker series, interactive workshops, and small-group reading discussions, students are invited not only to hear diverse perspectives but to actively examine ideas, exchange viewpoints, and develop their own informed understanding of important issues.
Serving students from colleges and universities throughout the Main Line, including Villanova University, The Main Line Center welcomes students of all backgrounds, disciplines, and perspectives. Our programs are open to all who share a willingness to engage with curiosity, thoughtfulness, and mutual respect.
